Finding a Medical Transcriptionist Job

Medical transcriptionist jobsFinding a job as a medical transcriptionist is a lot like finding any other job. No matter what course you take, the course provider cannot guarantee you a job upon completion, and they typically won't offer you a job afterwards. But that just means you will need to apply for positions like you would for other jobs. Listed on this page below are some links to sites that have job listings your can apply for, and other resources for finding MT jobs.

While finding a job is one thing, you are probably wondering how difficult it is to find a position that allows you to work from home. While a lot of companies that hire MT's will require you to work 2 years in an office setting before allowing you to work from home, there are many others that will hire new transcriptionists to work from home. MedQuist for example, allows new graduates of select MT courses to take an entry test, if passed, gives you a great chance at finding quick employment with the company.

But beware that like other jobs, employers will always be looking for the most qualified people for the job. That is why finding an extensive course is so important. After completing your course, it is recommended that you become a certified transcriptionist with the Association of Medical Transcriptionists (AAMT). While this certification is optional, having it may greatly increase your employment opportunities. To qualify for certification, you will need to pass an exam. Obviously, only a comprehensive course can prepare you for such a demanding test.
